Welcome to the Counseling Center!
We understand that navigating the ins and outs of school can be a challenge, and balancing different roles and expectations can be tricky. We are here to help you make decisions to move you forward on your life path, and to support you to be your best self in the process. Our primary goal is to support and advocate for you to reach your academic and personal goals by providing free, professional, and confidential counseling services to registered Highline students.
Personal & Mental Health Counseling
Personal counseling can help you understand yourself better and even help you resolve personal issues. Our counselors are patient and professionally trained to assist you in finding solutions and staying on your desired path. There are many concerns our counselors can help you navigate: stress, anxiety, loss, relationship concerns, self-harm, addiction, depression, trauma, gender identity, sexuality, conflict resolution, and lots more.
Educational Counseling
Educational counseling assists you in navigating the college system and in learning skills such as time management, taking tests, reading textbooks, and note-taking. Our counselors can help you adjust to the unique and sometimes overwhelming culture of college.
Career Counseling
Career counseling is a process that can help you understand yourself and the world of work in order to make career, education, and life decisions. Meeting individually with one of our counselors is helpful for when you may be stuck deciding between two or more career paths, or you would like more in-depth career assessments. If you are still exploring or undecided about what major to choose or what job or career interests you, we provide career counseling to help you learn about your core strengths, values, skills, interests and personality. Counseling is also helpful when students need to talk about ways to navigate societal barriers to their careers, to realistically look at their abilities and limitations, and to consider how family and culture may impact their career and life dreams.
You don’t have to know what you need when you come in and see us. We’re here to help you even if you just need a place to talk that’s confidential and supportive. For more information on the counseling process, visit FAQ.
Community Resources
We can help you get connected to helpful resources and support in the community. Our resource guide includes a variety of services and organizations related to mental health, basic needs, and crisis support for both adults and youths, and it includes information on finding residential and specialized mental health care providers.
Faculty/Staff Resource & Referral Guide
Balancing college with other aspects of life can be challenging. We believe that an empathetic and caring campus can help our students face these challenges. The Counseling Center is a great resource at Highline, but we can’t do this alone! Our counselors have created a 2-page Resource and Referral Guide to aid you in assisting students in emotional distress.
Counseling Internship
We are no longer accepting applications for our 2024–2025 academic school year internship. Applications for the 2025–2026 academic school year will open in Fall 2024.
